SYRACUSE, N.Y. —  The Onondaga County Health Department late Thursday afternoon reported that a third county resident had died from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.

“This individual was a male, in their 80s and with significant underlying health conditions and was hospitalized. For reasons of medical privacy, the department will not be releasing additional information,” Dr. Indu Gupta, Onondaga County Commissioner of Health, said in a statement.

The announcement came less than three hours after Onondaga County officials reported the county’s second COVID-19 death. That person was a woman in her late 60s who also had existing underlying medical problems.
