Onondaga County seeks proposals to purchase, redevelop ShoppingTown Mall property; deadline is April 27

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon on Tuesday announced that the county is seeking proposals for the purchase and development of the ShoppingTown Mall site in the town of DeWitt.

The successful proposal is required to demonstrate how the development will “enhance” the quality of life for residents in DeWitt, Onondaga County, and Central New York. The property offers nearly 62 acres of developable land, Onondaga County said.

“This is an important milestone in the efforts of my administration to turn ShoppingTown into the successful and productive site our community deserves,” Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said. “As we write the next chapter for this site, the community can feel confidant knowing that Onondaga County will do everything it can to make sure this property becomes something we all can be proud of again.”

Those submitting proposals will need to demonstrate a history of producing “high quality” projects and that their plan “ensures the highest and best use” of the ShoppingTown site. They will also need to demonstrate the project’s financials as well as produce a statement of integrity and disclosure, per the county’s news release.

Proposals are due by 4 p.m. on April 27.

The proposal document is available at the county’s division of purchase website at www.ongov.net/purchase/.
