Onondaga SBDC Director Powers set to retire

Joan Powers, director of the Onondaga SBDC, is retiring effective Jan. 31, the organization announced Thursday.

ONONDAGA, N.Y. — Joan Powers will retire as director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Onondaga Community College at the end of January, capping off 25 years of service and leadership at the organization.

Powers joined the SBDC in 1996 as a business advisor, before becoming assistant director in 2010 and director in 2013, according to the SBDC website.

She will retire effective Jan. 31, the Small Business Development Center announced in an email Thursday.

Prior to joining the SBDC, Powers worked for Carrols Corporation in various positions including payroll supervisor. According to her bio on the SBDC site, her areas of expertise are accounting, taxes, financial, and payroll.

Powers holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in accounting from Syracuse University. Outside of the SBDC, Powers has been involved with the Greater Syracuse Business Development Corporation and Women TIES (Together Inspiring Entrepreneurial Success) as a board member.
