HERKIMER, N.Y. — Herkimer County HealthNet has received a $2,500 Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Health and Wellness award to support programs and initiatives that improve health outcomes for community members.

The organization will use the funds to install the Herkimer Community Garden at The Tony Baggetta Mini Park at the corner of Smith and William streets in the village.

“Community gardens continue to be a vital part of the social infrastructure in our community,” Herkimer County HealthNet Executive Director Elyse Enea said in a press release. “Our goal for this garden is to beautify the landscape on Main Street, make fresh produce accessible, and provide a space for educational opportunities.”

The garden will offer hands-on learning opportunities for Herkimer residents, provide fresh produce, and create a space to learn about sustainable-gardening techniques and healthy eating.

Herkimer County HealthNet works to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals who live, work, play, and learn in Herkimer County.
