Oswego Health announces Ferguson as director of new foundation

OSWEGO, N.Y. — Karen Ferguson recently joined Oswego Health as director of the newly created Oswego Health Foundation, the health-care organization announced today.

The Oswego Health Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, has as its mission to provide individuals, businesses, foundations, and others the opportunity to support the various programs and units of the Oswego Health system. Those include Oswego Hospital, Springside at Seneca Hill, The Manor at Seneca Hill, and other Oswego Health affiliates.

Ferguson brings Oswego Health extensive fundraising experience. She most recently worked as the executive director for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Central New York chapter. There, Ferguson “successfully developed and managed a team of staff and leadership volunteers to bring a financially under-performing chapter to a viable, progressive, financially stable one,” Oswego Health said in a news release.

Ferguson, a native of Oswego, also previously held a position with the American Red Cross of CNY, where for several years she was the branch director for the Oswego office.

“We are glad to have Karen’s fundraising expertise as we continue the development of our new Foundation,” Adam C. Gagas, president of the new Oswego Health Foundation board and secretary of the Oswego Health board of directors, said in the release. “I look forward to working with Karen on our fundraising initiatives, to ensure Oswego Health has the most up-to-date healthcare services here in Oswego County.”

Ferguson is a graduate of SUNY Oswego with a bachelor’s degree in business. She earned the CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) designation in 2012. Ferguson also serves on the board of directors for the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the news release stated.
