Oswego Health breaks ground on new behavioral health services facility

OSWEGO, N.Y. — Oswego Health on Thursday broke ground on a project to renovate the former Oswego Price Chopper building into a 32-bed inpatient unit and outpatient behavioral health clinic.

The health system will renovate 42,000 square feet of the former grocery store at 29 E. Cayuga St. in the project, per a Thursday news release.

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) in July 2017 awarded Oswego Health a $13 million grant for the “transformation of its behavioral health services” in Oswego County.

Oswego Health says it is the only behavioral health services inpatient and outpatient provider in Oswego County, making it the “only comprehensive” behavioral-health provider in the county. In an evaluation of other Upstate communities, Oswego Health is one of the few organizations that is responsible for the emergency, inpatient and outpatient behavioral services in an entire county, the organization contends.

To help those who use the services “become healthier overall,” primary-care services will be also available onsite. Services that are currently offered at the behavioral health services Bunner Street location, the outpatient clinic, and the assertive community treatment (or ACT) team will also be relocated to the new facility, per the release.
