Oswego Health employees become CNAs in training program

OSWEGO — Five employees at Oswego Health’s The Manor at Seneca Hill graduated from a paid-certification program as certified nursing assistants (CNAs).

The Manor at Seneca Hill, a 120-bed skilled-nursing facility at 20 Manor Dr. in Oswego, offers a five-week, hands-on program allowing employees to “advance their careers” as a CNA, per Oswego Health’s Jan. 2 announcement.

The five employees were Cory Litchison, Kayleigh Litchison, Samantha Maloney, Morgan Reis, and Jaelisa Payne.

The program includes 240 hours of clinical, class, and lab training. While in the program, full-time employment as resident care aides is available. The average cost of certification is $2,000 and The Manor provides it at “no cost” for anyone interested in beginning their career in health care, Oswego Health said.

Christine Whitmore, a registered nurse and assistant director of nursing, shared words of encouragement at the graduation celebration, per the Oswego Health news release.

“Graduation day marks the culmination of hard work and dedication to practice. In reflecting on the journey of a nurse, think about the impact that one can have on the lives of those we care for,” Whitmore said.

Upon completion, employees are eligible for full-time employment and a $3,500 sign-on bonus, Oswego Health said. For experienced CNAs looking, a $7,000 sign-on bonus is available.
