Oswego Health names new leader for Springside at Seneca Hill for second time in five months

VOLNEY, N.Y. —  For the second time in five months, Oswego Health has announced a new leader for its Springside at Seneca Hill retirement-community affiliate.

It has named Sarah Weigelt as director of Springside, to replace Teresa Ferlito, who is retiring.

Springside at Seneca Hill is a retirement community that offers both one and two-bedroom apartments, as well as cottage and duplex-style homes for those age 62 and older. It’s located on Route 45A in the town of Volney, halfway between Fulton and Oswego

Oswego Health had previously announced in May that it appointed Karen Scaff as chief operating officer (COO) of Springside at Seneca Hill and VP with the parent organization, to replace Ferlito.

“Karen Scaff is no longer here,” Marion L. Ciciarelli, Oswego Health’s PR director, said in an email Thursday, responding to an inquiry from BJNN. Ciciarelli declined to answer further questions, including why Scaff had departed, why the position turned over so quickly, and why the title of the job had changed from COO to director.

Since her arrival at Oswego Health 12 years ago, Weigelt has advanced up the career ladder at the health system, according to an Oswego Health news release. She joined the health organization as an administrative assistant, working in the clinical administration department before being named director of volunteers and auxilians in 2011.

While she progressed in her career, Weigelt also earned her associate degree in business administration from Cayuga Community College.

 “I have always felt that I had more to give and so much more to do for the health system,” Weigelt said in the release. “This is an opportunity offering me new challenges. I am very much looking forward to being a part of Springside and all that it offers, as well as getting to know all the residents and their families.”
