Oswego Health readies for new Center for Orthopedic Care, recruits two orthopedic surgeons

OSWEGO, N.Y. — Oswego Health is renovating a 6,100-square-foot space at the Fulton Medical Center for a new center for orthopedic care.

Spectrum Contracting of Phoenix started its work on Jan. 7 and should finish by mid-April, Marion Ciciarelli, senior director of communications at Oswego Health, tells BJNN in an email.

The space, which Oswego Health described as “previously unused,” will have its own digital-imaging equipment and other technology, the organization said in a news release.

The upcoming center will provide patients orthopedic care and services “locally, without [the need for] traveling to neighboring Onondaga County,” Oswego Health said. The organization didn’t disclose the project cost.

Oswego Health said it has had a “long time goal” of developing an orthopedic center, an effort that it “achieved” with the recruitment of two orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Michael Diaz and Dr. Greg Keller. Both surgeons have more than 20 years of experience providing orthopedic care.

Diaz, who has been providing local orthopedic care since December, had previously been offering total joint replacements for knees and hips at the Cooperstown–based Bassett Healthcare system, Oswego Health said Keller specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery, knee replacements, and sports-medicine care.

Dr. John Ayres, who has provided orthopedic care locally for more than three years, will also continue his work in providing Oswego Health’s orthopedic care.

Oswego Health says its orthopedic care includes sports-medicine services that help local athletes and “weekend warriors” return to the field or gym. The services also include complete joint-replacement surgery with all pre and post-surgery appointments held locally. Oswego Health also offers advanced fracture care in Oswego Hospital’s emergency department.
