SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The owner of the Collegian Hotel & Suites at 1060 E. Genesee St. in Syracuse says the hotel won’t be closing its doors to become student housing, “contrary to earlier reports.”

In a news release, Scholar Hotel Group confirmed the property will remain a hotel for the “foreseeable future, providing a home away from home for travelers and visitors to the city.”

The Collegian Hotel & Suites first opened its doors as the Genesee Grande Hotel in 1957. Over the years, the hotel has undergone several renovations and upgrades, Scholar Hotel Group said.

“We are pleased to announce that the Collegian Hotel & Suites will remain, and we look forward to welcoming guests from all over the world to experience the charm and character of our historic property,” Gary Brandeis, CEO of Scholar Hotel Group, said in the release.

Brandeis went on to say, “We are committed to investing in the Collegian and ensuring that it remains a premier destination for travelers to Syracuse.”
