People news: AIS hires new business director

ROME, N.Y. — Assured Information Security (AIS) announced it has named Travis Akers as business director, Navy (C5ISR).

In this position, Akers leads the shaping, pursuit, and capture of business for AIS. He works across the organization, supporting various business lines in identifying and landing new business. He also works closely with the business-development team to grow existing accounts, according to an AIS news release.

Prior to joining AIS, Akers served with the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years, most recently as director of intelligence — MPRWS. He joins AIS through the Hiring Our Heroes Program, which connects the military community — including service members, military spouses, and veterans — with businesses to help create economic opportunity and a diversified workforce.

Akers holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from the University of Arizona and a master’s degree in public administration from Villanova University. Akersalso holds diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and congressional communications certifications.

AIS provides cyber and information security services, products, and operations to commercial and government customers. Founded in 2001, the Rome–based company employs more than 220 people.
