People news: Bonadio adds health-care veteran to compliance division

The Bonadio Group says it has hired Matthew Babcock as a principal specializing in health care in its compliance-solutions division working from the Albany office.

In this role, Babcock will consult with clients and assist with the assessment of their compliance programs, testing if federal and state Medicare and Medicaid requirements are met.

The Bonadio Group is a Rochester–based accounting firm that operates an office in Syracuse.

Babcock served for over nine years as the assistant Medicaid inspector general at the New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG). In this role, he was responsible for managing OMIG’s bureau of compliance and its regulatory activity. That activity included providing guidance on the state’s compliance requirements and conducting compliance program reviews of New York State Medicaid providers.

Most recently he was the deputy director, bureau of program counsel at the New York State Department of Health where he worked “almost exclusively” with the Office of Health Insurance Programs.

Previously, Babcock held management and legal positions in the hospital, health insurance, and managed-care industries and was in private law practice representing those industries.

Babcock will not provide legal services to any Bonadio Group clients, the firm noted.

“As regulations and requirements for compliance programs become continuously more complex, Matt’s depth of expertise and experience in this space will help our clients stay on top of their compliance requirements,” Paul Mayer, executive VP of Bonadio’s compliance solutions division, said in a release. “Matt’s background complements our compliance division’s healthcare practice and expands the specialized services we offer to our clients.”
