ALBANY, N.Y. — Steven J. Coffey, president and CEO of Broome Co-operative Insurance Company in Vestal, started as chair of the New York Insurance Association (NYIA) board of directors on Jan. 1.
He was elected to the post at the association’s annual meeting in November.
Coffey, who will serve a one-year term as board chair, has been a member of the NYIA board since 2011. He has been an officer of the association since 2012, most recently as first vice chair.
“I am confident that Steve will prove to be a tremendous asset to the association in his position as chair,” Ellen Melchionni, president of NYIA, said in a news release. “He is an accomplished leader whose extensive experience in the industry will undoubtedly lead NYIA to even greater success.”
Coffey has been president and CEO of Broome Co-operative Insurance since 2008. He has more than 35 years of experience in the insurance industry.
Broome Co-operative Insurance is a regional property and casualty insurer that was founded in 1887 and today writes a variety of personal and business insurance policies.
