People news: Crouse Hospital appoints chief information officer

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Crouse Hospital has appointed Kimberly Rose as chief information officer (CIO) for the hospital and its affiliated entities.

Rose most recently served as the hospital’s director of information technology, Crouse said in a news release.

In her new role as CIO, Rose will work with hospital leadership to provide “vision and strategic direction” in the continued development and implementation of Crouse’s system-wide, health-information technology operations, the organization said.

Besides Crouse, Rose’s efforts will also focus on affiliates such as Crouse Medical Practice and Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.

She’ll also work on developing capabilities to improve information sharing between Crouse and community physicians, the hospital said.

“How healthcare is delivered is changing rapidly, and success will be dependent on systems and technology that allow for integration, greater connectivity and data sharing across the entire healthcare continuum, not just the hospital,” Kimberly Boynton, CEO of  Crouse, said in the news release.

Boynton also contends that the increasing emphasis on population-health management, physician integration, patient engagement, and clinical quality all require a “high-level strategic” health information-technology (IT) focus.

Rose has worked with the hospital’s IT department since 2012, overseeing “numerous major” technology initiatives including a new emergency department patient-tracker system, the hospital’s MyHealthChart patient portal, computerized physician-order entry, and medication-administration systems.

She is currently leading the implementation of Soarian, the hospital’s electronic medical-records system, which is scheduled to go live in 2015, Crouse said.
