SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Erie Canal Museum announced that its board of trustees has recently elected its officers for 2016 and a new member to a three-year term.
Steven H. Kelly, associate treasurer at Syracuse University, was elected president of the board; the board VP is Jodee A. LaCelle, a VP at M&T Bank; the treasurer is Michael P. Goetz, a manager at Firley, Moran, Freer and Eassa, CPA, P.C.; the secretary is Paul J. Curtin, Jr., managing partner at the law firm of Curtin & DeJoseph, P.C.; and the chair of the board is Susan Hughes, archive manager at CXtec.
Cara Howe, curator of historic collections at Upstate Medical University, was elected to a three-year term on the board.
The board of trustees is responsible for financial oversight, overall planning, resource development, and periodic review of the mission of the Erie Canal Museum, it said in a news release. The museum is a nonprofit educational organization, established in 1962, that seeks to preserve the only existing weighlock building in the United States.
The museum collects and conserves Erie Canal material, fosters an appreciation and understanding of Erie Canal history through educational programs, and promotes an awareness of the canal’s impact on society.
