People news: ESF names associate provost for enrollment management

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) announced it has named Katherine (Kitty) McCarthy as its new associate provost of enrollment management, effective Aug. 10.

The position has been vacant for about a year, according to Karen Moore, who handles ESF media relations in the office of communications and marketing. McCarthy replaces Erin Craig, who departed the school for a position at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Moore tells CNYBJ in an email.

In this role, McCarthy will develop and oversee programs, policies, and initiatives leading to continued growth in enrollment; expanded geographic, cultural, and economic diversity; sustained selectivity; and support the college’s retention efforts, ESF contends. McCarthy will lead the school’s admissions and financial-aid teams, the college said.

McCarthy comes to ESF from Radford University in Virginia, where she served as the VP for enrollment management and the interim associate VP for transfer partnerships and recruitment. McCarthy developed and oversaw enhancements to outreach and processes to recruit promising students.

“I look forward to joining the ESF team,” McCarthy said in an ESF statement. “I’ve been impressed with the commitment to the college’s mission that I’ve seen in everyone — students, faculty and staff — and I am eager to join the effort. ESF fulfills a vital role in society, preparing students to take a leadership role in sustaining the environment.”

McCarthy has an MBA degree from Syracuse University, a bachelor’s degree from Alfred University, and an associate degree from Monroe Community College, ESF said.
