People news: Everson Museum announces new chief development officer

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Everson Museum of Art has appointed Mary Jo Barnello as the museum’s new chief development officer, effective Nov. 17.

Barnello replaces Samara Hannah, who was the Everson’s director of development for nearly three years, the museum said in a news release. Barnello was selected after a two-month long search led by Sarah Massett, the Everson’s interim director, and Cliff Malzman, its board of trustees development committee chair.

Barnello has more than 20 years experience as a senior manager in development and fundraising. Most recently, she served as director of development and community relations at the Empire State divisional headquarters for the Salvation Army. Previously, Barnello held leadership fundraising positions with Loretto, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York, and the Boys and Girls Club, the release stated.

The Everson Museum of Art also recently announced that Elizabeth Dunbar will take over as its new executive director by Jan. 1.

Dunbar was selected after an eight-month long search led by Gary Grossman,  the museum’s board president, and a committee of Everson trustees.

Dunbar has nearly 15 years of museum senior management experience. Most recently, she served as executive director of DiverseWorks in Houston, according to an Everson news release.
