People news: Genese fills new leadership role at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital

NORWICH, N.Y. — UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital announced it has named Dr. Thomas Genese to the newly created position of VP of medical affairs and community health.

Since 2017, Genese has served as director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at UHS Wilson Medical Center and, since 2022, as the medical director for rural health for the United Health Services (UHS) system.

Prior to joining UHS, he served as a medical director and primary care physician at St. Joseph’s Health Center and as nursing home medical director at the Kingston Center of Prospect/Centers Healthcare in Rhode Island.

Previously, he held clinical posts with St. Mary’s Hospital/Yale University, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

“We are very pleased to have someone of Dr. Genese’s background and commitment joining us in this important physician leadership role,” UHS Chenango Memorial President/CEO and Chief Medical Officer Drake Lamen said in a release. “Dr. Genese’s experience as a primary care provider, rural medical director, and medical educator make him a valuable new addition to our senior team, and we’re excited to see the impact he has as we continue to evolve as a health-care institution.”

Genese holds a medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and an MBA/health-services administration degree from SUNY Oswego. He completed post-graduate training at the Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, and at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.
