ROME, N.Y. — The board of directors of Rome Hospital Foundation announced it has added Dr. Lauren Giustra to the board.

Giustra is an obstetrician and gynecologist with more than 20 years of experience. She and her husband, Dr. Ankur Desai, moved to Rome in 1996 and co-founded their privately owned medical practice, Mohawk Valley Women’s Health Associates. To date, Mohawk Valley Women’s Health Associates has delivered more than 9,500 babies at Rome Memorial Hospital, according to a foundation news release.

A graduate of Saint Joseph’s College in Windham, Maine, Giustra received her medical degree from the SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania.

Drs. Giustra and Desai have been “avid supporters” of Rome Hospital Foundation for many years. Through Mohawk Valley Women’s Health, they have supported multiple fundraising events of the organization, per the release.

“Dr. Giustra was a natural choice to add to the Foundation’s Board of Directors,” said Gretchen Sprock, 1st VP at the foundation. “Even with a very demanding professional and personal schedule, Dr. Giustra has given so much of her time and talent to Rome Hospital Foundation. We are thrilled that she has agreed to join us in an official capacity as a Foundation Board member.”

Giustra will join the Rome Hospital Foundation’s 11 current board members.

The foundation says it provides “vital philanthropic support” to Rome Memorial Hospital. Rome Hospital Foundation is a separate 501 (c) (3) nonprofit.
