SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — MVP Health Care announced it has named Alan Goldberg chair of its board of directors.

Goldberg, retired president and CEO of First Albany Companies, Inc. (which later became Broadpoint Securities Group Inc.), previously served as vice chair of the MVP board and has been a director since 2006, MVP said in a news release.

He succeeds Karen Johnson as board chairperson, the health insurer said.

Previously, Goldberg served as board chair of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce (now the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce) and the nonprofit Center for Economic Growth in Albany.

“MVP has been fortunate to have Alan on the board. His deep experience leading both public and private organizations will certainly be of great benefit to us,” Denise Gonick, MVP president and CEO, said in the release. “and I look forward to our continued collaboration.”

Schenectady–based MVP Health Care insures nearly 60,000 people in Central New York, according to the 2017 Book of Lists. It has about 100,000 members in New York’s individual and small-group markets.
