UTICA, N.Y. — Herkimer County Community College announced it has appointed Alesha L. Bowman as an assistant professor of fashion buying and merchandising.

Bowman previously owned and operated UnLESHed+, a fashion clothing thrift store for plus-sized women in Kansas City, Missouri. She also served as director of multicultural student services at DePauw University in Indiana.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising with a minor in marketing as well as a master’s degree in college student personnel administration, both from the University of Central Missouri. Bowman also earned a certificate in diversity and inclusion in higher education.

Herkimer College’s fashion buying and merchandising associate-degree program prepares students for careers in the fashion industry including buying, fashion merchandising, retail and wholesale sales, retail management, and marketing.
