People news: Kelberman Center appoints Hilts director of transition and vocational services

UTICA, N.Y. — The Kelberman Center has appointed Crystal Hilts director of transition and vocational services. She joins the center after two years as a regional, vocational-rehabilitation education specialist through the New York State Education Department.

Hilts has been active in the field of education and training and development for 12 years. Her experience includes teaching students with disabilities, developing programs, helping youth in transition, offering skills training, and promoting community partners as collaborators in the Central New York region, according to a Kelberman Center news release.

In her new role at the Kelberman Center, Hilts will focus on developing programs for young adults as they graduate from high school and move into vocational settings or college. She will use her experience coordinating secondary programs on college campuses, using peer mentoring and evidence-based, data-driven instruction to improve students’ post-school outcomes, the release noted.

The Kelberman Center, which is headquartered in Utica and has an office in Syracuse, says it’s a regional center for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Its services include evaluation and diagnosis, individualized education and services, social and life-skills enhancement, and training and research.
