People news: Morra appointed to state United Way board

UTICA, N.Y. — The United Way of New York State (UWNYS) board of directors has elected Gregory Morra, president of the United Way of the Valley & Greater Utica Area board, as one of its new members.

The UWNYS is the statewide nonprofit organization that represents the collective interests of the local United Ways in New York state.

“We look forward to Greg’s contributions to our work. His strengths and experiences make him a strong addition to the board,” Reg Foster, president and CEO of UWNYS, said in a news release.

The UWNYS board meets quarterly. The board’s 20-30 members work throughout the year on legislative advocacy for United Way initiatives in health, education, income, and nonprofit accountability, the release stated.

“It is great for the Valley and Greater Utica Area to maintain representation on a state level board, such as UWNYS. The growth and innovation of our area is constantly growing; this opportunity serves as another outlet for our community’s potential to be recognized in the state,” Brenda Episcopo, executive director of United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area, said regarding Morra’s appointment.

Morra has been a volunteer for the United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica for 24 years. He has served on the board of directors for three years, and is in his second year as board president.
