People news: MVHS names Forbes VP of philanthropy

John Forbes

UTICA, N.Y. — The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) announced it has appointed John M. Forbes as its VP of philanthropy.

In this role, he provides leadership to support and sustain MVHS’s philanthropic efforts with the community, medical staff, and health-care network. Forbes will help to develop a vision and strategic plan for the upcoming fundraising campaign for the new downtown Utica hospital that MVHS is planning.

Prior to joining MVHS, Forbes was most recently a major gift officer for Hamilton College in Clinton, where he was responsible for leading major giving for nonprofits and fundraising organizations, according to an MVHS news release. From identification of a potential donor, to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, Forbes was responsible for building relationships with prospects for major gifts to the college.

Forbes earned his bachelor’s degree in government, with a minor in theater, from Hamilton College.
