People news: OCRRA’s Gelewski elected to national composting board

Greg Gelewski

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The United States Composting Council (USCC) recently elected Greg Gelewski, the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency’s (OCRRA) recycling operations manager, as VP of its board of directors.

Gelewski has more than 18 years of experience in the environmental compliance, remediation, and material management fields for both the public and private sector.

At OCRRA, Gelewski assists with the management of the agency’s “award-winning and nationally recognized” composting program, the local agency said in a news release. He holds a bachelor’s degree in wildlife and fisheries management from Frostburg State University in Maryland. Gelewski is a USCC certified compost operations manager and is a USCC compost operators training course graduate.

In 2014, the New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling presented Gelewski with its Recycler of the Year Award for the promotion of organics recovery across New York state.

The USCC says it is the only national organization dedicated to the development, expansion, and promotion of the composting industry.
