People news: On Point for College hires Kohler to lead jobs program

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — On Point for College announced it has hired Rebecca Lo Kohler as its new director of the On Point for Jobs program.

On Point for College is a nonprofit, founded in 1999, that seeks to boost college enrollment and graduation of inner-city youth. The organization says it has helped more than 6,200 low-income students enroll in 216 college and universities to date.

On Point for Jobs works with students and graduates of On Point for College and Central New York employers to help fill openings with qualified On Point students, the organization said in a news release.

Kohler comes to On Point for Jobs from Herkimer County Community College (HCCC), where she served as director of admissions. At HCCC, she worked to overhaul the recruiting process and modernize the school’s systems and processes, the release stated. Under Kohler’s direction, HCCC became a “leader” in inner-city recruitment and retention. She received the 2015-16 On Point for College “Campus Angel Award” (campus angels are college employees who volunteer to provide extra help when needed to students attending the college for which they work), On Point noted.

“Having seen first-hand the quality of students enrolling in our educational institutions, it’s a natural progression to place them as quality employees in the growing regional economy,” Kohler said in the release. “I’m confident our partnerships with employers, colleges and universities will make a huge impact on the area. On Point for College graduates are already working in the community and taking up volunteer leadership roles. It’s exciting to continue this important work as Director of On Point for Jobs.”
