People news: Pathfinder Bank hires Rusnak as first VP of finance and accounting

OSWEGO, N.Y. — Pathfinder Bank announced it has named Walter F. Rusnak first VP of finance and accounting.

Rusnak’s primary responsibilities include daily management of the bank’s accounting and finance department, internal and external financial reporting, management of the bank’s investment portfolio, and direct oversite of the asset and liability management functions, Pathfinder said in a news release.

Rusnak was previously an advisory board member and founding principal of Ovitz Corp., where he advised and supported the financial operations and corporate governance in a startup medical-device company.

Before his role at Ovitz, he held several roles in publically traded banks and regional credit unions across the country, the release stated. From 1996 to 2002, Rusnak held several positions at Superior Bank, FSB in Illinois, including VP and controller and senior VP and chief financial officer. In 2002 to 2003, he served as senior VP of finance at Aurora Loan Services, Inc. in Colorado. Rusnak later served as senior VP and director of finance and administration, as well as chief financial officer, for ESL Federal Credit Union in Rochester from 2004 to 2013.

Rusnak’s additional experience includes senior VP and chief financial officer at Johnstown Savings Bank, VP and chief financial officer at Empire National Securities Inc., assistant VP at Corporate Financial Group, and senior staff accountant at KPMG.

Rusnak, a CPA, received his MBA in finance from the University at Buffalo and bachelor’s degree in accounting from Canisius College.
