People news: Rome Memorial Hospital names Carissimo-Harris director of relationship-based care

ROME, N.Y. — Rome Memorial Hospital announced it has named Amy Carissimo-Harris director of relationship-based care.

She has 25 years of nursing experience, including 20 years at Rome Memorial Hospital. For the past four years, Carissimo-Harris has been director of infection prevention, according to a hospital news release.

Rome Memorial Hospital defines relationship-based care (RBC) as an “operational blueprint for improving patient experience, safety, quality, employee relations and financial performance.” RBC focuses on three key relationships: relationship with self, with colleagues, and with patients/families.

“While the patient has always been at the center of our care, this model accomplishes more because it recognizes the importance of every member of the team in achieving the best possible outcomes,” Carissimo-Harris said in a release. “My experiences as a front-line nurse give me a great deal of insight in regards to the way our nurses work and my experience in infection prevention taught me that everyone has a valuable role in achieving successful outcomes.”

Carissimo-Harris started her career in nursing as a nursing assistant in 1992 and earned her nursing degree from St. Elizabeth College of Nursing in 1994. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in biology from Utica College.
