People news: Rome Memorial Hospital names new chief medical officer

ROME, N.Y. — Rome Memorial Hospital (RMH) announced it has appointed Dr. Russell Silverman as its chief medical officer (CMO).

Silverman replaced Dr. Andrew Bushnell who is continuing to serve as medical director of the RMH emergency department, Cassie Evans Winter, VP of communications/marketing at RMH, tells CNYBJ.

RMH named Bushnell interim CMO in April 2017 and he had been serving in both roles since that time, Winter added.

A member of the medical staff at St. Joseph’s Health for more than 35 years, Dr. Silverman has been a “driving force [behind] the growth and national recognition of the St. Joseph’s cardiac service line,” RMH said

Rome Memorial Hospital is an affiliate of St. Joseph’s Health.

In addition to serving as CMO, Silverman will continue to provide medical cardiology to Rome area residents in the St. Joseph’s Health Cardiovascular Institute office located on the ground floor of Rome Memorial Hospital in the Dorothy G. Griffin Cardiovascular Center, RMH said.

“As chief medical officer, Dr. Silverman will be instrumental in supporting the medical staff in pursuit of clinical excellence at Rome Memorial Hospital,” Mark Murphy, president and CEO of Rome Memorial Hospital, said. “Dr. Silverman is experienced in uniting diverse teams to achieve excellence in patient care through collaboration and alignment of common goals.”

Silverman earned his medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, where he completed his residency in cardiovascular disease in 1983.
