People news: Rome Memorial names Marquette director of plant operations

ROME, N.Y. — Rome Memorial Hospital has named James (Jim) Marquette director of plant operations following the retirement of director Edward Koziarz.

Marquette previously served as the department’s assistant director, Rome Memorial said in a news release issued Tuesday.

“The care and maintenance of the hospital building and various off-site facilities has been placed in good hands with Jim Marquette taking on the responsibilities of plant-operations director,” David Lundquist, president and CEO of Rome Memorial Hospital, said in the release. “Having worked in many positions within the department since joining the hospital in 1980, Jim has first-hand understanding of the inner workings of the buildings and a wealth of knowledge and experience which he readily shares with the members of his team.”

The plant-operations department is responsible for maintenance of the hospital building and 13 off-site facilities, according to Rome Memorial.

The 16-member staff handles all plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling issues; maintains the hospital’s energy center; handles remodeling and renovations; and maintains and repairs lighting and mechanical appliances.

The staff also focuses on painting and maintenance of the building’s surfaces and fixtures and handles snow removal and landscaping work. 

Marquette’s duties also include oversight of the RMH biomedical department, which ensures medical equipment is “well-maintained, properly configured, and safely functional,” the hospital said.

The biomedical department is part of the plant-operations department.

“Although I have been part of the plant-operations team for more than 30 years and have a lot of experience, I realize that there are new challenges we will be facing as the hospital adjusts to changes in healthcare,” Marquette said in the release. “There are new standards to abide by now and, with an older building, some areas will need some updating.”
