People news: Rome Memorial names new nurse practitioner for regional wound care center

ROME, N.Y. — Jennifer Fields, a nurse practitioner, has joined the staff of Rome Memorial Hospital’s Regional Center for Wound Care, located at 267 Hill Road in Rome. 

A graduate of the St. Elizabeth’s College of Nursing, Fields earned both her bachelor’s degree in nursing and master’s degree in family health administration from SUNY Institute of Technology in Marcy (now called SUNY Polytechnic Institute).

In her more than 12 years in the health-care field, Fields has served in many capacities, including providing care to military service personnel, as a charge nurse for Rome Memorial Hospital’s Critical Care Unit, and her most recent work as a family nurse practitioner in gynecology.

A native of Rome, Fields said she is “excited” about her new position and looking forward to helping patients “experience the difference advanced wound care can make in their lives,” according to a Rome Memorial Hospital news release.

“At the wound center, there is a team of nurses, doctors, and myself who work together to develop the best plan of care to treat not only the wound, but the underlying conditions that are impeding the wound from healing,” Fields said. “Many people who have chronic and hard to heal wounds may have resigned themselves to living in pain because they don’t want to travel far from home to receive advanced wound care. This center offers the chance of healing and living pain-free just minutes from their homes.”

Advanced wound care services available at the Regional Center for Wound Care include, hyperbaric oxygen therapy for problem wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers and non-healing surgical wounds. Other treatment options include debridement, topical wound therapy, tissue therapy, and negative pressure wound therapy, the hospital said.
