People news: Security Mutual elects new director

BINGHAMTON, N.Y — Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York announced it has elected Carol Baldwin Moody to its board of directors.

Moody is principal of CAB Moody, LLC, a firm she founded in January 2015 to create and implement compliance and risk-management programs, as well as to advise insurance companies and other financial institutions on complex and emerging risks, according to a Security Mutual news release.

Before founding CAB Moody, she worked at CalPERS (California Public Employees’ Retirement System) as senior portfolio manager and in investment compliance and operational risk. Her career with CalPERS also included serving as the organization’s acting chief operating investment officer.

Moody also previously was senior VP, chief risk officer of Wilmington Trust Company; senior VP, chief compliance officer of Nationwide Insurance; and chief compliance officer of TIAA-CREF. She also served as head of compliance, global relationship banking at Citibank, NA, according to the release.

Moody earned her J.D. degree from the Columbia University School of Law, after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Security Mutual, founded in 1886, is a mutual insurance company with about $2.7 billion in assets and $32 billion of life insurance in force. Security Mutual said it employs more than 325 people at its home office in Binghamton and distributes its products through a network of more than 5,000 independent insurance agents located throughout the U.S.
