People news: State Sen. DeFrancisco appoints Brunetti as new legislative counsel

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — State Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C, Syracuse) announced that he has appointed Judge John J. Brunetti as his new legislative counsel. Brunetti will start in the position on Jan. 2.

Brunetti served as judge in the Court of Claims and acting justice in the Supreme Court of Onondaga County for more than 20 years from 1995-2017. He previously served as first deputy district attorney in Onondaga County and as assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern District of New York. Brunetti also previously served as counsel to Sen. DeFrancisco from 1993-1995.

Brunetti received his JD degree from New York Law School in 1974 and his LLM from the Southern Methodist University (SMU) School of Law in 1975. He has taught law at SMU, Vermont Law School, and Syracuse University, and he has published several legal writings.
