Christian Capocaccia

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Opera announced it has appointed Christian Capocaccia as general and artistic director to oversee the day-to-day operations of the opera company for the remainder of the 2021 season.

Capocaccia most recently served as artistic planning director of the board management committee, a volunteer role he took on when the pandemic shut-down the performing arts. Prior that, he served as the artistic director and principal conductor for Syracuse Opera, conducting highly acclaimed performances of “Cosi Fan Tutte” and “Candide” in the 2019-2020 season and three productions — “MacBeth,” “Don Giovanni,” and “The Threepenny Opera” — in the 2018-2019 season, according to a Syracuse Opera news release.

He also served three seasons as Symphoria’s associate conductor & youth orchestra music director.

A native of Rome, Italy, Capocaccia is a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. His operatic credentials include numerous Italian companies and festivals, as well as the Pittsburgh Opera, Dallas Opera, and the Rochester Philharmonic, per the release.
