Syracuse has hired 1981 graduate Bob Arkeilpane, who the school describes as a “veteran athletics administrator with vast fundraising experience.”
He is a native of the Buffalo suburb of Amherst.
In his new role at Syracuse, Arkeilpane will lead the creation and implementation of all athletics fundraising efforts for the 20 men’s and women’s sports programs.
His efforts will also target funding for athletics facilities, and for the “cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of major prospects and donors.”
He will also work closely with the athletics department volunteer-leadership boards. Arkeilpane will have a dual reporting role to the department of athletics and the university’s office of advancement and external affairs, Syracuse said.
Arkeilpane previously served as the deputy director of athletics at the University of Cincinnati (UC) from 2005 to June 2014, according to his LinkedIn page. He was director of athletics at the University at Buffalo between 1998 and 2003, Syracuse said in its news release issued Wednesday.
Arkeilpane had also earlier served as associate VP for development/campaign planning for the UC Foundation, the private sector fundraising entity for the University of Cincinnati and its campuses, colleges, departments and units, from 2003 through 2005. Arkeilpane previously had worked for the UC Foundation as college director of development and alumni affairs from 1987-91.
Most recently, Arkeilpane has been serving as a principal at eRecruitFit since January 2016, per his LinkedIn page.
The website eRecruitFit “seeks to create a ‘fit’ between student athlete and team in the recruiting process through application of leading-edge behavioral science and predictive analytics,” per its website.
Arkeilpane played defensive back for the Orange and head coach Frank Maloney from 1977 through 1980, including as a member of the 1979 Syracuse team that won the Independence Bowl by beating McNeese State.
