SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse University women’s lacrosse head coach Gary Gait announced that Caitlin Defliese has joined his staff as an assistant coach.

Defliese comes to Syracuse from Stony Brook University, where she was associate head coach for the women’s lacrosse team for the last five years.

“We are excited to have a coach with Caitlin’s level of experience,” Gait said in a news release. “She has played an integral part in turning Stony Brook into a top 10 program. Her experience will help us continue to compete for a national championship.”

Defliese served as Stony Brook’s defensive coordinator, leading one of the top defenses in the nation. In 2016, the Seawolves ranked second in the nation in scoring defense and fourth in scoring margin.

Defliese played women’s lacrosse for four years at Boston University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in health and rehabilitation in 2010.
