People news: Tompkins Financial promotes Peterson to marketing communications manager

ITHACA, N.Y. — Tompkins Financial Corp. (NYSE: TMP) announced it has promoted Abby Peterson to VP and marketing communications manager.

She joined the banking company in 2016, and has more than seven years of marketing experience. Peterson is responsible for overseeing the marketing-communications efforts for Tompkins Financial’s four community banks: Tompkins Trust Company in Central New York, Tompkins Bank of Castile in Western New York, Tompkins Mahopac Bank in the Hudson Valley, and Tompkins VIST Bank in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

“Abby’s experience in the marketing industry, and her time leading our marketing initiatives for our four banks, have contributed to her success as a leader at our Company,” Susan Valenti, executive VP of marketing, said in a news release.

Peterson will continue to be based in Ithaca, at Tompkins Financial’s downtown headquarters.

Before joining Tompkins Financial, Peterson served as a marketing and public relations specialist at Hagan Associates in Vermont, where she planned and managed marketing and public-relations initiatives for multiple clients.

She received her bachelor’s degree in integrated marketing communications from Ithaca College in 2011.

Peterson serves on the Downtown Ithaca Alliance board of directors and marketing committees, as well as the Historic Ithaca Development Committee. She is also a graduate of the Leadership Tompkins civic-leadership training program and a Fab5 Planning Committee member/Tompkins Trust Company representative.
