People news: Unity House promotes program manager to director position

AUBURN, N.Y — Unity House of Cayuga County, Inc. announced it has promoted Allie MacPherson to director of Grace House from program manager.

Unity House offers two residential options in Auburn for those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

In her new position as Grace House director, which she started in February, MacPherson provides clinical and administrative supervision, guidance, direction, and counsel to the community residence and supported-living facility program staff, according to a Unity House news release.

MacPherson holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from SUNY Cortland, and recently completed her CASAC (Certified Alcohol & Substance Abuse Counselor) credential. She serves as a member of the Cayuga County Alcohol & Substance Abuse Subcommittee and the Drug Free Community Coalition, and chairs the opiate subcommittee.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to direct these important programs, and look forward to building our services to better meet the needs of the substance abuse population,” MacPherson said in the release. “We are facing a critical opioid epidemic right now and Grace House services are needed more than ever.”

Unity House of Cayuga County is a nonprofit that provides transitional and permanent housing, rehabilitative, respite, and employment services for individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or chemical dependencies from which they are recovering. The agency says it serves more than 700 people a day in six central New York counties. Unity House will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2017.
