People news: University College Dean Frasciello appointed to UPCEA board

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — University College Dean Michael Frasciello has been appointed to the board of directors of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA).

University College describes itself as “the home of part-time study at Syracuse University.”

Washington, D.C.–based UPCEA is the largest nonprofit association for professional, continuing, and online higher education.

Established in 1915, the association has more than 400 member institutions. Syracuse University has been active in the association since its founding, the school said in a news release. The association focuses on online and continuing education through professional development and publications.

Frasciello joined Syracuse University in 2000 to provide campus-wide leadership in support of its undergraduate and graduate online and continuing-education initiatives. The school named him interim dean of University College in 2016 before appointing him dean in 2017.

Frasciello leads a staff that supports residential and online undergraduate and graduate programs; executive education, language, and culture programming for international students; pre-college programs; and summer programs, Syracuse said.

He earned a Ph.D. in composition and rhetoric from Syracuse University; a master’s degree from Westminster College; and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland University College.

In addition, Frasciello served for 10 years in the U.S. Air Force.
