People news: Vanek elected to NYS Tourism Industry Association board

AUBURN, N.Y. — Meg Vanek, executive director of the Cayuga County Office of Tourism in Auburn, has been elected to the board of directors of the New York State Tourism Industry Association (NYSTIA). She will serve a one-year term ending in October 2015.

The merging of the New York State Tourism Promotion Agency (NYSTPA) Council with the New York State Travel and Vacation Association (NYSTVA) in early 2014 created the NYSTIA, a statewide membership-based nonprofit organization for travel and tourism and related businesses. NYSTIA’s initiatives include advocacy, marketing, and leadership and professional development.

With 17 years of tourism experience, Vanek, formerly served as the vice chair of the NYSTPA Council.

“The merger of the NYSTPA Council and NYSTVA has created the opportunity for NYSTIA to grow into a larger more engaging statewide membership organization and I am happy to serve,” Vanek said in a news release.

The Cayuga County Office of Tourism (tourcayuga.com) says it is the designated tourism-promotion agency for Cayuga County and promotes the county’s attractions, events, and lodging establishments.
