SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The POMCO Group, a Syracuse–based third-party administrator of self-funded health-care and risk-management plans, has promoted Tim Whelan to vice president and controller.

In his new role, Whelan will be responsible for ensuring the quality of financial accuracy, reporting, and internal-financial procedures at POMCO Group, the company said in a news release.

Whelan, who has worked for POMCO for 24 years, most recently served as the controller for the firm’s accounting department. In that role, Whelan managed corporate financial statements and related compliance, regulatory financial reporting, budgeting, and banking, the company said.

Whelan, a certified public accountant, is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Le Moyne College.
