Pomeroy Foundation makes naming gift to Crouse for emergency department

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The William G. Pomeroy Foundation is providing a “generous” donation that will place the Pomeroy name on the soon-to-be renovated emergency department (ED) at Crouse Hospital. Crouse didn’t disclose how much the foundation is donating.

The upcoming renovation project will lead to the Pomeroy emergency department, the hospital said in a news release it issued Thursday.

“Today we celebrate a new name as we prepare to break ground in April for the ED construction project,” Patrick Mannion, chair of Crouse Hospital’s board of directors, said in the release.

Construction crews will complete the project in phases, working toward an anticipated end date in late 2018. They will expand the facility’s clinical-treatment space from the current 12,300 square feet to nearly 35,000 square feet, Dr. David Mason, medical director of the Pomeroy emergency services department, said.

Crouse will also relocate the critical-decision unit and PromptCare within the hospital’s main emergency department. The critical-decision unit is currently located on the Memorial Tower’s 5th floor, while PromptCare now operates in the CNY Medical Center at 739 Irving Ave., across the street from Crouse Hospital.
