ILION, N.Y. — The closed Remington Firearms facility in Ilion may soon have a new owner.

The Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency (HCIDA) announced that Turin Management, LLC, a women-owned New York-based development company, executed a purchase and sale agreement for the entire 1-million-square-foot facility, located at 14 Hoefler Ave. The agreement gives Turin up to four months to complete its due diligence on the property including but not limited to infrastructure and environmental assessments. No financial terms were disclosed.

According to HCIDA CEO John Piseck, Turin is evaluating a number of options for the site. HCIDA has been involved in developing the reuse plan for the facility.

Roundhill Group LLC acquired the Remington gun-making brand, including facilities in Ilion and Tennessee, in 2020 and operated it through its RemArms LLC holding company. RemArms announced late last year it would shutter the Ilion plant in March 2024 and consolidate its operations in Georgia. At the time, the plant employed just over 300 people.

Eliphalet Remington founded Remington Arms in Ilion in 1816. DuPont owned the company from 1933 to 1993. In more recent years, the company has changed ownership and names a number of times. Remington Arms filed for bankruptcy in 2018 and 2020.
