Preferred Mutual Insurance hires director of commercial lines

NEW BERLIN — Dan Stedman joined Preferred Mutual Insurance Co. as director of commercial lines this week. Stedman brings the insurance firm more than 30 years of commercial-lines underwriting experience and more than 20 years in leadership with a national/regional carrier, the company says.

Stedman earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oswego, and his professional designations include chartered property casualty underwriter (CPCU), associate in underwriting (AU), competent Toastmasters management (CTM) and associate in reinsurance (ARE).

 “Dan has a proven track record of leading superior underwriting performance in the areas of growth and profitability for middle market, national accounts, surety bonding and inland marine,” Brian Lopata, senior vice president of profit center operations & customer relations at Preferred Mutual Insurance, said in a news release. The company didn’t name Stedman’s previous employers in the release.

Preferred Mutual Insurance says it provides property and casualty insurance coverage to more than 250,000 individual and business customers through a network of more than 450 independent agents throughout New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The mutual insurance company, in business since 1896, employs more than 260 people and is headquartered in New Berlin.
