ProLiteracy appoints Morgan as permanent president & CEO

SYRACUSE — The board of directors of ProLiteracy, the largest adult-literacy membership organization in the nation, has announced the formal appointment of Kevin Morgan as permanent president and CEO of the nonprofit.

Morgan has been serving as interim president and CEO since November 2012, as well as board chair since 2010. He will remain a member of the board.

John H. Ward, senior vice president with RR Donnelley Logistics, has been appointed chair of the ProLiteracy board of directors.

“Kevin [Morgan] has been invaluable as board chair and since November 2012, he has fully immersed himself in the organization,” Ward said in a news release. “The board believes Kevin’s professional leadership will continue to serve ProLiteracy well as we continue to raise awareness for adult literacy around the world through our materials, services, and programs.”

Under Morgan’s leadership, Syracuse–based ProLiteracy has undertaken a new strategic plan to fully focus on the organization’s mission of developing and promoting adult literacy learning, content, programs, and advocacy to help adult learners, according to the release. As a result, the organization has produced new materials aligned with the 2014 GED test and other high school equivalency tests through its publishing division New Readers Press.

New programs have been launched — both in the Central New York area and nationally — to embed adult literacy programs into existing social services, the organization said.

Morgan has also overseen strategic hires in the organization’s fundraising and finance divisions and has infused operations with a sense of entrepreneurial spirit, ProLiteracy contends.
