Upstate University Hospital’s downtown campus in Syracuse has secured nearly $14 million in federal funding as a COVID-19 “hot spot” hospital, one of 86 hospitals statewide sharing $680 million for New York hospitals, per the office of U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D–N.Y.). Five regional hospitals are among 86 New York hospitals that will share $680 million of a new $10 billion allocation of federal funding designated for COVID-19 “hot spot” hospitals.
The funding was secured as part of the CARES Act, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D–N.Y.) and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) said in a news release.
The senators explained that the funding builds upon the $4.3 billion announced in April for New York’s “hot spot” hospitals and providers.
The funding will provide grants for 86 hospitals across New York to cover unreimbursed health-care-related expenses or lost revenues attributable to the public-health emergency resulting from the coronavirus.
