Report: CNY counties post below-average wage gains

Onondaga, Oneida, and Broome counties had wage increases between the second quarters of 2013 and 2014 that were largely below average compared to the pay increases in the U.S. and New York state.

That’s according to the latest report on county employment and wages in New York that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) posted on its website on Thursday.

The average weekly pay in Onondaga County in the second quarter of 2014 was $866, up 1.3 percent from the year-ago period.

In Oneida County, the average weekly wage in the same period increased 2.2 percent to $760.

The average weekly pay in Broome County in the second quarter of 2014 was $756, up 1.1 percent from the year-prior period,

In comparison, average weekly wages rose 2.4 percent in New York state and 2.1 percent in the U.S. in the same timeframe, according to the BLS data.

And, New York County (Manhattan) posted a 3 percent increase in average weekly pay between the second quarters of 2013 and 2014. In Albany County, wages rose 3.1 percent in the period.
