CLINTON — David (Dave) and Ellen Varecka on Wednesday announced their purchase of The Arbor Inn, a bed and breakfast (B&B) in Clinton that has two locations.

The former Buffalo–area residents are now calling the facility The Arbor Inn of Clinton, which includes The Arbor Inn on Griffin Road and Williams Street Lodging, according to a news release about the purchase.

The Vareckas became the innkeepers on Aug. 1.

The Arbor Inn on Griffin Road is located less than a half mile from the Hamilton College campus and 25 minutes from Colgate University, the Vareckas said.

Former owners Bob and Carol Renauld opened The Arbor Inn as a B&B in 2000. The first guest suite at Williams Street Lodging opened in 2009, according to the news release.

The release didn’t disclose the acquisition price or other transaction details.

Dave Varecka had been principal partner of an architectural firm for 35 years, and Ellen Varecka had spent her career in business operations and human-resources management, according to the release.

Dave Varecka worked for Kideney Architects, PC in Buffalo, according to his LinkedIn page.

“We were ready to leave our corporate lives,” Dave Varecka said in the release. “We just weren’t ready to settle down.”

The Vareckas’ interest in operating such a facility began when they were on a tour of historic homes in Buffalo and stumbled upon a home that just happened to be a B&B.

The couple didn’t go on to purchase that particular B&B, but it did “spark a new passion” for the Vareckas, who were looking for an adventure after retiring, they said in the release.
