Rome business owner arrested in January faces new charges

Cody Madonia

ROME, N.Y. — A multi-state investigation has resulted in new charges against a Rome man who had been arrested in January for allegedly selling a piece of heavy equipment on eBay, then not supplying it.

Cody Madonia, 26, was charged Thursday with second-degree grand larceny, scheme to defraud, and falsifying business records — all felonies.

In a release, police said that following Madonia’s Jan. 15 arrest on third-degree grand larceny charges, other complaints arose from around the country.

In January, New York State police said Madonia’s business, Proforce Excavation and Equipment, located at 8490 Turn Road in Rome, sold a Bobcat skid-steer for $17,500 and failed to deliver.

Police said Thursday that complaints from elsewhere showed Madonia received more than $90,000 from victims.

Pennsylvania State Police, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department in Indiana, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department in Tennessee assisted in the investigation, New York State police said.
