UTICA, N.Y. — The Utica Municipal Housing Authority; Norstar Development USA, L.P.; and community partners will sponsor a free construction job fair for Oneida County residents for the Roosevelt Residences project.
It is scheduled for May 15 between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Utica Public Library at 303 Genesee St. in Utica.
Oneida County residents seeking training or jobs in the construction industry can attend, the Utica Municipal Housing Authority said in a news release issued Monday.

The job fair will help local developers and contractors find people interested in working on affordable housing and other commercial and residential projects in the community. Construction companies throughout the U.S. are facing a shortage of trained workers needed for both residential and commercial projects, according to the release.
The job fair is an effort of the Utica Municipal Housing Authority HUD section 3 initiative to find people interested in construction training, apprenticeship programs, and employment related to the Roosevelt Residences project.
HUD is short for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Located in the Cornhill neighborhood of Utica, the project is currently under construction across 11 “scattered” sites and will consist of 25 buildings housing 50 units of affordable housing.
Crews are expected to complete construction in spring 2019.
The Utica Municipal Housing Authority is working with Norstar Development USA, L.P., and Norstar Building Corporation on the project.
Norstar Development is headquartered in Concord, Ontario with a U.S. corporate office in Buffalo.
The fair is a collaborative effort of the Utica Municipal Housing Authority; City of Utica; Norstar Development USA; Utica Public Library; Workforce Development Board; Mohawk Valley Community College Youthbuild Program; Oneida County Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES); Central New York Labor Council; and other partners to connect residents interested in construction employment with local training programs and employers.
